Russian antitrust prepares gas market deregulation reform

YALTA, Crimea, Oct 20 (PRIME) -- The Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service plans to prepare a reform to liberalize natural gas market prices within two to three years, Director Igor Artemyev said Thursday during a meeting on tariff regulation.

“We see that competitive spheres in the systems of sea ports, airports, communication and others bear serious possibilities for deregulation…We are also seriously preparing a reform to deregulate the gas market in the Russian Federation in the next two to three years,” he said.

“That is because we have competition here. We have Novatek, Itera and, obviously, Gazprom here today…and they may very well compete on the internal market. Of course, other restrictive mechanisms may replace tariff regulation.”
